Lasik Alternatives

Eye surgery technology is always evolving. There are some new procedures and techniques added to the Lasik eye surgical procedure, like Lasek and Epi Lasik. However, they are still not widely spread and their use is relatively limited because there are not enough tests done yet unlike the traditional Lasik procedure.

Lasik Alternatives

There are several lasik alternatives should you not qualify for lasik surgery:

Restor and Crystalens – for patients with presbyopia to replace bifocals for near vision.

Phakic Intraocular Lens procedure such as Verisyse for patients who are extremely nearsighted and contraindicated for Lasik.

Radial Keratotomy, ALK or bifocals (glasses used to correct presbyopia, where the top half of the lens is for the distant objects, and the bottom half is for the near objects (while reading)).

There are also other alternatives, such as glasses or contact lenses.

An Intra-corneal ring, ICL (implantable contact lenses)

Orthokeratology – the process of treating myopia using hard contact lenses to gradually flatten the cornea, and consequently correct the vision. However, the improvement is temporary because when the contact lenses are removed the case returns back to the initial state, because the cornea returns to its original shape.
